There aren’t enough words to accurately describe the beauty and grandeur of Lake Como. It’s a breathtaking, upscale, majestic and scenic destination. Naturally, it draws visitors from all over the world and has plenty of beautiful luxury hotels to choose from, but its crown jewel is Villa d’Este, a sprawling former summer residence turned five-star resort. A stunning lakeside property located in the village of Cernobbio, the Villa is surrounded by 10 acres of park, lush botanical gardens and a front-row view of what’s considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
Clients of The Hollyday receive exclusive VIP perks and amenities at this hotel, including: – Room upgrade on arrival, subject to availability – Complimentary buffet breakfast at the restaurant (or continental in room), for up to two in-room guests – Complimentary use of the minibar replenished once a day – Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability – Complimentary multicourse lunch or dinner, depending on length of stay
The hotel’s botanical gardens and mosaic that is listed as an Italian national monument.
Every inch of the property is breathtaking, from the lobby (those chandaliers and flower arrangements are unreal) to the botanical gardens, the restaurants, and of course, the views. It’s easy to see why it’s been a favorite destination of the rich and the famous since the beginning.
The floating pool at Villa d’Este.
Originally built in 1568 as the summer residence of a wealthy Cardianl, it was later purchased by Carloline, Princess of Wales in 1873 and transformed into a luxury hotel. Its guest list quickly became legendary, frequently welcoming everyone from European nobles, royals and aristocrats to celebrities and noteables like Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth and Aristotle Onassis. As you can imagine, it remains a favorite of celebrities and high society today, with neighbor George Clooney even coming over regularly for dinner while he’s in town.
It’s not just the beauty of this place that sets it apart – the exceptional service that the staff extends to every guest really makes Villa d’Este a special experience that keeps people returning year after year. From the moment you check in, the Villa d’Este family welcomes you into their ‘home’ and treats you like their most important guest until the minute that you leave.
The hotel has 152 rooms, all of which are furnished with beautiful Renaissance style antique furniture and are updated each winter during the closed seasons. There are also four private villas which are great for guests desiring a little more privacy while still allowing them to enjoy all the services, conveniences and amenities of the hotel.
Aperitivo time! The best place to be in the late afternoons is on the terrace wtih a spritz or bellini.
The location of Villa d’Este is perfect for those who want to explore the area of Lake Como. Boat tours can be arranged, as well as visits to the different towns and villages that border the lake, like Bellagio and Como. There is plenty to do on the property, though. Beyond your typical hotel features (gym, sauna, restaurants, pools, bars, etc.), Villa d’Este also offers a Beauty Center, a Sporting Club, botanical gardens and a mosaic that is a national Italian monument, tennis courts with a lake view, jogging paths and an electronic golf putting green, and even its very own golf course – Golf Club Villa d’Este is located just a short drive from the hotel. With all that Villa d’Este has to offer, it truly feels more like a destination than just a hotel.
