It’s safe to say that traveling is one of our biggest sources of inspiration for just about everything. For us, when we travel, we walk around with our eyes open wider and our senses constantly stimulated, whether its from the beautiful views and landscapes we see, the incredible food we get to taste, or the music we hear being played on the streets.
Or sometimes it’s even as simple as walking into a hotel and never wanting to leave. (You know, when you walk into a place and Snapchat your friends with the caption “Um can I move in?!?!? #goals!”) That’s what happened the first time we walked into the Viceroy Santa Monica.
Viceroy hotel properties are known for their impeccable interior design and aesthetic, which you’ve probably noticed if you’ve ever stayed at one. (If you haven’t, see what we mean here, here and here.) But the Viceroy Santa Monica so perfectly captures that je-ne-sais-quois that makes you feel like your at your West Coast home away from home.
And it all made sense when we found out the property was originally styled by Californian interior design queen Kelly Wearstler. Wearstler was brought on to design Viceroy’s flagship property in 2002. The result? Stunningly bold rooms drenched in color – bright green, rich navy, black, white and yellow. Wearstler describes the style as “modern colonialism.” The property was refreshed by Dawson Design Associates in 2013, but most of Wearstler’s iconic style remained. It’s a bright, cheery and inviting space that is bold but still California chic. Each time we visit the property, we want to replicate her designs in our own home.
If you’re in L.A., stop by Wearstler’s flagship boutique on Melrose Avenue to get a look at more of her stunning designs and products.
