We first discovered Palihouse Santa Monica while doing research for our L.A. City Guide (which is coming soon, btw!). We were intrigued by it’s quirky-looking interiors and charming facade. The more we discovered about the property, the higher it moved up our list of hotels to check out while in L.A. We spent a few days in Santa Monica and eventually made our way to the Palihouse. Tucked away five blocks off Ocean Avenue, we ended up in the middle of a neighborhood and figured surely we were lost. Well, we weren’t, and turns out that’s actually part of the appeal. The property dates back to 1927 and was formerly the Embassy Hotel Apartments, which served as part residential apartments and part hotel. Today, the building is a historical landmark, and operates as a full hotel, though some of the rooms are primed for extended one-to-three month stays, keeping with the spirit of the residential neighborhood vibe.
Whether staying for a few nights or a few weeks, guests will enjoy the spacious, inviting lobby filled with lots of inviting sitting areas and the charming guest rooms, many of which are fully equipped with kitchens. Other standout features of the property include its lush, lavish gardens, the patio sitting area and the adorably stylish Linus bicycles which are available for rent to guests.
Hidden from the crowded heart of Santa Monica but just blocks from great restaurants, shops and the beach, Palihouse provides the best of both worlds. Read more about the hotel here.
