And just like that, summer is over! Did it fly by quicker than a Zara collection to anyone else? It’s the season that always does, it seems. It’s the one we all want to hang onto a little longer, extending it over into the fall as long as the temperatures will let us. It’s the season of vacations, sunshine and being outdoors, and when the weather gets too hot there’s always a beach, pool or a glass of frosé nearby to cool us down. But just because fall is here and winter is coming doesn’t mean the fun is over! There are plenty of upcoming events worth traveling for to keep your schedule filled with fun times for the rest of the year. Below, a roundup of things to do and excuses to travel to last you from now until the end of 2017.
October 5-8 / London
If you’re an art aficionado, book a ticket to fly across the pond and attend Frieze London. The art-fair counterpart to Frieze New York and Frieze Berlin is held the first weekend of October in Regent’s Park. As one of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs, each year the London event sees over 60,000 visitors from around the world, including collectors, dealers, gallerists, critics, and regular old folk like you and me who just want to see and be inspired by today’s coolest contemporary art. You’ll come back feeling so cultured. (*Goes to London art fair once…) Click here for tickets.
October 6 & 7 / Mojave Desert, Nevada
This event has been on my bucket list since I found out about it and one day I will go. RiSE is a lantern festival held every year on the Moapa River Indian Reservation, not far from Las Vegas. The festival, which may be attended on either day, includes an evening of live music, food trucks, beer and wine vendors, and the simultaneous release of thousands of lanterns. Upon entry to the festival you will receive your lantern and pen, which you can use to inscribe your prayers, wishes, hopes and dreams, or a simple message on your lantern. We all have burdens, weight on our shoulders, or feelings we’d like to release, and this is a symbolic way of people coming together and doing that in a really freaking beautiful setting. Pretty badass if you ask me. Watch this video and tell me if it doesn’t give you all the feels!
October 14 / Los Angeles
It’s that time again in L.A., when lots of ridiculously good-looking people come together dressed to the nines for a day of Veuve-sipping, polo-watching and socializing. It’s the Polo Classic, and its a freaking good time. The team at Veuve Clicquot never, ever fails to put on a memorable event. I recommend doing it big and going with a Rosé Garden ticket for the best experience. All tickets can be purchased here.
October 27-29 / New Orleans
For an all-out experience this Halloween, head down to New Orleans for Voodoo festival – a weekend of music, arts, food, drink and Halloween costumes galore. This year’s lineup includes Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, The Killers, LCD Soundsystem, The Head and the Heart, Cold War Kids and tons more. The festival is held in New Orleans’ City Park, but if you’re going to make the trip I would suggest blocking off some time to spend around the city to get a taste of everything it has to offer.. it is such a vibrant place! You can get your tickets here. Now go do… that voodoo… that you do… so well! (Comment below if you know the ridiculously funny movie that uses that line and I will send you a little something in the mail!)
November 8-12 / Napa Valley
As if you needed another excuse beyond the wine tasting to visit Napa Valley, the Napa Valley Film Festival brings over 100 of the year’s independent films (many of which are Oscar and/or Golden Globe noms) and showcases some of the region’s best culinary talent, and, as one would imagine, wine. Actors, filmmakers, tastemakers, winemakers and spectators come together to make it a weekend of celebrating the cinematic arts. I’d travel for that! You can get tickets to the festival here.
December 7-10 / Miami Beach
Come December, everyone will be ready for a getaway to somewhere a little warmer, and there’s no better excuse to party in the city where the heat is on than Art Basel. Head to my Art Basel Miami Beach Event Guide for all the details, and read about this year’s show and get your tickets here.
